the Bible, God’s Word

The Bible is our greatest treasure.
May God give us hearts to cherish it as we ought.

The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold.
Psalm 19:9-10 NIV

heaven

If God didn’t want us to get excited about our inheritance,
He wouldn’t have told us about it.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.
1 Peter 1:3-4 ESV

words

So many things are better left unsaid.

Let your speech always be gracious.
Colossians 4:6 ESV

trouble vs. trust

We can either be troubled,
or we can be confident in God;
being both is not an option.

“Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.”
John 14:1 ESV

loving God

Loving God is better than anything else we have done or will ever do.

And [Jesus] said to them, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.”
Matthew 22:36-37 ESV

rest & trust

No matter how busy we are on the outside,
our insides work best in the still position.

Be still, and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10 ESV

humility

There is absolutely nothing we can do to earn God’s favor.
That is humbling.

So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Romans 9:16, Micah 6:8 ESV

service

Every missed opportunity to do good
is a missed blessing for at least two people.
Let’s ask God to help us seize the day–
and every good opportunity it offers.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:9-10 ESV

God our strength in trials

God, Himself, with us and in us
and all around us is our strength.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God…Fear not, for I am with you.
Isaiah 43:2-3, 5 ESV

eternity

Our time on earth is but a moment,
especially when compared to eternity.
Let’s honor God during our moment.

As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
Psalm 103:15-16, 1 John 5:13 ESV

faith

Our faith will only be as strong
as we believe our God to be.

I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power.
Psalm 18:1-2, 147:5 ESV

Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit power sometimes comes as peace,
in the midst of turmoil,
joy, in the midst of heartache,
hope, in the midst of despair.
Sometimes His strength is experienced as
forgiveness, instead of anger,
love, instead of revenge,
faith, instead of giving in to all sorts of fear,
or courage to speak the truth.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Acts 1:8 ESV

sin

God will give us victory over sin,
but sometimes He waits until we ask Him to.

Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent of hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
Psalm 19:12-13 ESV

generosity

We can be generous because our God is generous.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

pride

Pride wears many disguises;
sometimes we don’t even realize
when we’ve put one of them on.

All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.
1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV

faith

It’s impossible to have too much faith in God–
but it sure would be fun to try!

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He promised.
Romans 4:20 NIV

prayer

Out of all the people in the world,
God recognizes your voice.

In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came before Him, into His ears.

trouble & trust

Let’s make it our aim to trust God
at the first sign of trouble,
rather than waiting until He gets us out of it.

When I am afraid, I will trust in You.

cares & anxiety

If it matters to us,
we can be sure,
it matters to God.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
