prayer

When praying is the only thing we can do,
we should not wish to do more,
as if there is something better than securing God’s help.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another
and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16 ESV

prayer and God’s sovereignty

Pray…
because God has everything under control.

For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose.’
Isaiah 46:9-10 ESV

prayer

Pray…
because God has today all figured out.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139:16 ESV

sin and temptation

Without God’s help, we are easily convinced to sin.

Pray then like this…
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Matthew 6:9, 13 ESV

examples

If your mama wouldn’t do it or watch it
or say it or read it, you probably shouldn’t either.

Brothers, join in imitating me,
and keep your eyes on those who walk
according to the example you have in us.
Philippians 3:17 ESV

pray anyway

When you don’t know what to say, pray anyway.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
For we do not know what to pray for as we ought,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us
with groanings too deep for words.
And he who searches hearts knows
what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit
intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Romans 8:26-27 ESV

dependence day

Let’s make this a happy dependence day.

My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.

dependence every day

We get into trouble only when we forget
how very much we need God.

Seek the Lord and His strength;
seek His presence continually!

Bible reading

Let’s read through the Bible in a year–
but if it takes us five years, that might be even better.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.
Colossians 3:16 ESV

prayer

Pray as though everything depends on God,
because it does.

He Himself gives all men
life and breath and everything else.

fruit

Holy Spirit fruit is never out of season.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.

prayer

Pray…
because God gives good directions.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Pray…

The Lord delights in those who fear Him,

pray

Pray…
because God answers prayer.

Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying,
“Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border,
and that your hand might be with me,
and that you would keep me from harm
so that it might not bring me pain!”
And God granted what he asked.
1 Chronicles 4:10 ESV

heaven and earth

If asked, Do you want to go to heaven?,
most of us would answer, Yes!
If asked, Do you want to go to heaven today?,
we might answer differently.

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.
Philippians 3:20-21

legacy

May ours be a legacy of faith.

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
2 Timothy 1:5 ESV

our prayer, their salvation

What if, one day, God decided to save
all the people for whom
we had earnestly prayed?

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God
our Savior, who desires all people to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1, 3-4 ESV

God and nations

One nation under God–
our only hope,
our most earnest prayer,
our greatest glory.

Speaking to Israel, Moses said,
“For what great nation is there
that has a god so near to it
as the Lord our God is to us,
whenever we call upon him?
And what great nation is there,
that has statutes and rules so righteous
as all this law that I set before you today?”
Deuteronomy 4:7-8 ESV

age & purpose

Our usefulness is not diminished by old age,
if anything it is heightened,
because we will know God more intimately
at 80 than we did at 20.

[The righteous] still bear fruit in old age;
they are ever full of sap and green,
to declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
Psalm 92:14-15 ESV
