Emmanuel

Even when we don’t feel God’s presence,
we can be sure He is with us–
teaching, loving, leading us home.

Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Psalm 73:23-24 ESV

best place to live

This makes perfect sense:
The safest place to live
is with the strongest God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
ever singing your praise!
Psalm 84:3-4 ESV

presidents and platforms

Our “right” to sin is not a good political platform.

How long, O God, is the foe to scoff?
Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
Why do you hold back your hand?

If my people who are called by my name
humble themselves, and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, then
I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
and heal their land.

Psalm 74:10-11, 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

sunrise sunset

The beauty of a sunrise
is even more breathtaking
for Christians, because we know…
our God did that!

You make the going out of the morning
and the evening shout for joy.
Psalm 65:8 ESV

thanks

Thank you for reading my blog.
You are in my prayers.

But exhort one another every day,
as long as it is called “today.”

fear

With all the uncertainties in this life, fear is inevitable.
That’s why we need a Savior who is stronger than our greatest fear.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust;
I shall not be afraid.
Psalm 56:3-4 ESV

grace

dis grace: to try to earn God’s favor by doing good works

I do not nullify the grace of God,
for if righteousness were through the law,
then Christ died for no purpose.
For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing;
it is the gift of God, not a result of works,
so that no one may boast.
Galatians 2:21, Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV

clean before God

Only God can literally wash away our sins.
Oh, praise Him!

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
Psalm 51:1-2 ESV

tug-of-war

Taking back a burden
we’ve already given to the Lord
is like playing tug-of-war with God.
It’s best to just let go!

Cast your burden on the Lord,
and He will sustain you;

He will never permit
the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22 ESV

eternal eyes

It’s good to keep an eternal perspective.

“Oh Lord, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!”
Psalm 39:4 ESV

revive and save

We can trust God to do two things He does very well:
1. Revive those who know Him.
2. Save those who don’t.

Will You not revive us again,
that Your people may rejoice in You?
Show us Your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us Your salvation.
Psalm 85:6-7 ESV

worship

Worship is joyful. Seriously!

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Praise befits the upright.

on faith and works

Faith works.

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead,
so also faith apart from works is dead.
James 2:26 ESV

help wanted

God helps us whenever we count on Him to help us–
that’s amazing, that’s how committed He is
to being a good and faithful God.

The Lord helps them and delivers them;
He delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in Him.
Psalm 37:40 ESV

God, our hiding place

Even adults need a good hiding place.

You are a hiding place for me;
You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with shouts of deliverance.

on speaking

Sometimes, the softer we speak,
the better we are heard.

Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near.

fear and evil

The only evil we need to fear is the one
in which we’re tempted to participate.

Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands
take heed lest he fall.

strength and success

Our success doesn’t depend on our own strength,
but on the strength of the One in whom we place our trust.
Why is this so? It’s simple–we are weak but He is strong.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 ESV

no fear

People who know God is with them
say the most amazing things,
such as: I will fear no evil!

Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me.
Psalm 23:4 ESV
